It is becoming increasingly clear that a conservative Supreme Court majority’s willingness to disregard established precedent has created a destabilizing dynamic that may extend far beyond abortion in a country already divided ideologically. Abortion services have abruptly and practically been discontinued in a few conservative states.

The House Select Committee investigating the deadly Jan. 6 insurgency at the US Capitol will hold its second public hearing of the month. This hearing, according to Committee Vice Chair Rep. Liz Cheney, will focus on presenting findings that show former President Trump engaged in “a massive effort to spread false and fraudulent information” despite the fact that “Trump and his advisers knew that he had, in fact, lost the election.”

Philadelphia Saturday night, killing at least three people and injuring 11, police stated. Officers were patrolling the area when they heard gunshots shortly before midnight, according to Philadelphia Police Inspector D.F. Pace, who added that they saw “several active shooters shooting into the crowd.”

Officials say an 18-year-old shooter fatally shot 19 children and two adults at a Texas elementary school on Tuesday before being slain by police. According to Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Erick Estrada, the shooter, Salvador Ramos of Uvalde, also shot his grandmother before crashing a vehicle near the school. He stated that she is in critical condition. Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District Police Chief Pete Arredondo believes the gunman acted alone.

    Police and fire authorities said a 32-year-old runner died Saturday after finishing a half marathon in Brooklyn in which 15 others were hurt. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in New York City stated an official cause and manner of death should be revealed in the following days. According to NYPD Det. Arlene Muniz, the marathoner was found unconscious, lying on the pavement, having fainted after crossing the finish line just before 9 a.m. in Brooklyn’s Brighton Beach area. The runner received rapid medical assistance before being evacuated to Coney Island Hospital. The runner was pronounced dead at the hospital per Muniz. The New York Fire Department reported 15 more people were sent to area hospitals as a result of the race. According to the FDNY, at least four people were seriously injured.

Haley Taylor Schlitz isn’t old enough to buy a drink, but at 19 years old, she is on track to become Southern Methodist University’s youngest law school graduate. According to a news release from SMU, Taylor Schlitz was admitted to nine different law schools in 2019, finally enrolling at the Dedman School of Law in Dallas.

According to a press statement from the Lafayette Police Department, at least two persons were killed, and four others were injured in a shooting at a block party early Sunday in Indiana. According to the press release, more than 100 people attended the party at a Lafayette apartment complex.
