“In what is already a challenging time for the people of Haiti, I am saddened by the devastating earthquake that occurred in Saint-Louis du Sud, Haiti,” President Joe Biden said in a statement. “We send our deepest condolences to all those who lost a loved one or saw their homes and businesses destroyed. I have authorized an immediate U.S. response and named USAID Administrator Samantha Power as the senior U.S. official to coordinate this effort.”
Following the earthquake this past weekend that devastatingly impacted communities throughout Haiti, AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), a global non-profit public health organization that addresses the HIV/AIDS epidemic, is collecting critically needed items to support the time sensitive relief efforts.
Haiti is the first and only country of African people to fight for and gain their independence in the Western Hemisphere. Haiti is the only place where slaves took their freedom by force and led the only successful slave revolt in modern times. That fact alone is worthy of acclaim and respect. Haiti’s place in our history is without parallel.
