“Taking what they could not win”

    By Pastor Rasheed Z Baaith

“He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.” (Proverbs 10:18)

While the “government shutdown” is supposed to be about defunding what is called Obama care, and it is, there is so much more to be understood.

As Professor Dr. Ozoke blogged “The GOP does not regard the President as merely wrong – but as illegitimate. Not misguided but illegitimate. This is not about ending Obamacare as such (although it is a preliminary scalp) it is about nullifying this presidency.” The good doctor is absolutely correct.

And as much as many of us don’t want to accept the fact, racism still plays a major influence in America, especially in Congress. It is so powerful that it has fostered the worst kind of political insanity.

This is an attempt by a faction of politicians that believe adhering to an ideology, no matter how extreme or how destructive, is more important than anything else. These are people that live in a one dimensional world where the inhabitants are right when they are wrong. They have decided to ignore the fact they have lost the last two Presidential elections, two Senate races and a Supreme Court decision. The President campaigned on the very thing they are seeking to destroy and the people elected him. What about “yes” don’t they understand?

Politics may be the wrong word to describe what they are now attempting.  Blackmail would be more fitting. This is for all practical purposes an attempted coup.  Even more remarkable is that it is being orchestrated by people who are forever clamoring about the sacredness of the United States Constitution. Yet this so called shut down is probably the serious attack on the Constitution in recent history.

Remember too that attacking the Constitutional process is attacking the governance of this country, and the means of effecting that process  What this is about is who will have authority and control of the American government. This group of doctrinaires are prepared to destroy this country and the world if need be in order to take by extortion what they could not win in a fair election.  This is not a political strategy to these people, it is a cause.

Many of us have gotten confused. In all the euphoria of President Oba-ma’s elections and with all the talk a-bout a “post racial America,” we began to really believe that racism no longer had had power.  We were wrong. If Trayvon Martin’s death didn’t prove that point, this political coercion does. While so many in the GOP bemoaned the minority as having too much influence over the majority thru legislation, that worry ceased when it came to them. Majority rule, at least when it comes to Congress and the legislative process, is now a thing of the past.

Think that’s hyperbole? The Supreme Court has just begun its new session. Among the cases they will consider will be a number issues important to Black people.

This Supreme Court is viewed as perhaps the most Conservative in recent history and the most conservative member of the Court is a Black man. Things may well go from bad to worse.

    Think about it.
