HELP BRING HOPE AND JOY TO BROWARD FAMILIES IN NEED

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (October 5, 2021) – “Hope Marches On” this holiday season! The Salvation Army of Broward County is seeking South Florida residents with a positive outlook and an affinity for philanthropy and fun to apply for seasonal bell ringer positions during the nonprofit organization’s three job fairs on Tuesday, October 12, from 10 a.m. – noon, Wednesday, October 13, from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. and Thursday, October 28, from 10 a.m. – noon. The job fairs will take place at the Salvation Army’s headquarters at 100 SW 9th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale. Approximately 125 paid positions need to be filled.

Synonymous with the Christmas season, “ringing the bell” at a Salvation Army Red Kettle has been a tradition since 1895. It’s not just about ringing a bell, however. All proceeds from the Kettle stay in Broward County and support the Salvation Army’s feeding, shelter and social service programs. Last year, the nonprofit organization raised over $320,215, more than a 33% increase over the same period last year, in less than five weeks in November and December, for the Greater Fort Lauderdale community.

“As we enter the holiday season this year, we never thought we’d still be faced with such mounting health and employment challenges. The Salvation Army of Broward County is here to help and is calling on our community to join us in affirming that despite our obstacles, hope will always march on,” said Major Stephen Long, area commander for The Salvation Army of Broward County. “We encourage job seekers and holiday helpers of all ages to join us in enriching the lives of our friends and neighbors in need and other vulnerable populations within our community.”

The Job Fair screenings will comply with CDC-approved COVID-19 social distancing guidelines and applicants will be required to wear a mask. Bell Ringers will be selected for employment for the holiday period of November 12 – December 24.

The Red Kettle Bell Ringers program is only part of the nonprofit organization’s efforts to help those less fortunate. Last year’s Angel Tree Program secured and distributed more than 7,566 gifts to 1,114 families with diminished resources. The Salvation Army is also actively assisting thousands of residents-in-need through its Food Pantry during the COVID-19 pandemic. Each Thursday, trusted Army experts provide non-perishable items and other pantry goods to more hundreds of underserved families. The organization also provides meals-to-go services for the homeless, its residents and other impoverished individuals.
