    By George H. Russell, Bishop

It was crazy-bizarre to watch Trump hold up a book that promotes slavery, genocidal pedophilia and even eating one€™s own children, as if, after ordering the assault of peaceful protesters he could use a church and a Bible as a photo op, to somehow show himself off to be some kind of erratic God king.

Slavery was an accepted institution in both the Old Testament and New Testaments, and nowhere did Jesus condemn slavery, so it is no wonder that many Christians fought against doing away with slavery – especially those who owned slaves.

The Bible states in LEVITICUS 25:45-46: Moreover, you may buy the children of strangers and they shall become your property. And you may take them as an inheritance for your children after you, to inherit them as a possession; they shall be your permanent slaves.

At the very least Trump could have walked peacefully amongst the citizens exercising their First Amendment rights under our Constitution, which Trump has no doubt never read and if he has read it, would not understand what the First Amendment stands for.

Then, if he wanted to use a Bible as a prop he could have or should have read some of Jesus words promoting love, peace, and charity.

Quite frankly, I doubt that Trump is capable of comprehending what Jesus stands for or that at least a wee bit of Christlike empathy could go a long way in healing the wounds that have inflicted our society like a pandemic, perhaps ultimately even more lethal to our future as a Democratic Republic than the Corona Virus.
