Two Detriot Cops face charges which include orchestrating robberies and S*ual assault
Two Detroit cops are in trouble with the law, one for allegedly orchestrating robberies and the other for criminal s*xual assault, according to police.
Clifton Whatley is believed to have orchestrated several robberies in various Michigan counties, and is facing armed robbery, bank robbery, unlawful imprisonment, conducting a criminal enterprise and felony firearm charges, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
Whatley was arraigned Thursday morning on $1 million dollars cash bond. Whatley has been employed as a police officer since 2000.
Another officer, Geoffrey Townsend, who runs a program for troubled teens, is also in trouble with the law. Townsend was arraigned Wednesday on four counts of third-degree criminal s*xual conduct at the 47th District Court and was given a $25,000 cash bond.
Detroit Police Chief Chester Logan spoke about the arrests in a statement.
“We are committed to ensuring that the members of the Detroit Police Department conduct themselves in a manner that is worthy of the public’s trust,” the statement says. “To that end all allegations of police misconduct that occurs within our jurisdiction will be thoroughly and impartially investigated and my department will assist and cooperate with all outside jurisdictions.”
The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office says the crime Townsend is accused of committing occurred at his home between 2010 and 2012. He allegedly met the victim through Reality Check Detroit, described as a crime prevention program designed to assist at-risk youths six to 14 years old. Townsend is the founder and CEO of the organization.
