Aaron Sherinian, guest speaker for Broward County Chapter United Nations Association-A Program of the United Nations Foundation

     Before joining UNF, Aaron Sherinian served as managing director of Public Affairs for the Millennium Challenge Corporation, a U.S Government Development Assistant Agency administering poverty reduction grants totaling over seven billion dollars in 40 partner countries. In this capacity, he oversaw the agency’s strategic communication portfolio, media relationship and public relations agenda. His professional background includes a decade of service as a Foreign Service officer for the U.S Department of State.

    Before returning to Washington, he was press attaché at the U.S Embassy in Quito, Ecuador, where he was responsible for Embassy Relations with media outlet and acted as the Ambassador’s Communication Advisor.

    His diplomatic experience includes a tour as Deputy Political and Economic Chief at the U.S Embassy in Yerevan, Armenia, where he manages programmatic coordination and outreach for the U.S Government annual assistance budget of $90 million. He served in the political and consular section of the U.S Embassy in Costa Rica and in the Office of Policy Planning under two Assistant Secretaries of State for the Western Hemisphere. His experience also includes service at U.S Missions in Colombia and the Holy See (Vatican). Sherinian is a native of Pasadena, Calif. He holds degrees from John Hopkins University (School of Advanced International Studies-SAIS) and Brigham Young University. In addition to Spanish he speaks Italian, Armenian, and French. He and his wife have three children.

    The Theme: United Nations Day 2012 Solution for a Prosperous World. United Nations Day Oct. 21, 2012 will mark the 67th anniversary of the United Nations Charter. Last year, 86 chapters hosted 136 events across the U.S. This year Broward County Chapter will commemorate this special day with a scholarship and awards luncheon at the Inverrary Country Club, Inverrary Blvd., Lauderhill, Fla. Our honorees include: Roland Drayton, Kasey Minnis, Comm. M. Margaret Bates, Mary G. Dugoni, Glennis Adolphos, Enid Cawley, Marilyn Brummitt, Collin Williams and the Scholarship winner, Pierce Robinson Burgess.
