Outdoor Exhibition on Display Now – April 19, 2026
Bonnet House Museum & Gardens, a 35-acre subtropical estate and historic museum located in the heart of Fort Lauderdale, welcomes visitors to experience ZimSculpt, its new outdoor exhibit celebrating contemporary Zimbabwean stone sculptures. ZimSculpt has transformed the historic estate into a global showcase of Zimbabwean art, culture, and craftsmanship.
ZimSculpt features hundreds of hand-carved stone sculptures by 150 contemporary artists from Zimbabwe. Rooted in the centuries-old Shona sculptural tradition, the works create an immersive experience blending art, nature, and history. Guest curators Vivienne and Joseph Croisette carefully placed the sculptures to complement the estate and honor the legacy of Bonnet House founders Frederic and Evelyn Bartlett.
ZimSculpt offers visitors a rare opportunity to see the creative process with daily live sculpting demonstrations by Zimbabwean artists Passmore Mupindiko and Shine Muzika, who use traditional Shona techniques. The demonstrations provide firsthand insight into the skill, patience, and cultural knowledge behind each finished work which are all available for purchase.
ZimSculpt has earned international acclaim, with pieces having been displayed in collections worldwide, including New York’s Museum of Modern Art, Paris’ Rodin Museum, and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The collection has garnered the attention of prominent figures such as Sir Richard Attenborough, Morgan Freeman, the Rockefeller family, and the British Royal Household.
Bonnet House will also be holding a ZimSculpt Exhibit VIP Opening Reception on Saturday, January 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on its beautiful Waterfront Veranda.
