A MESSAGE FROM THE PUBLISHER
“The essence of life is not Hope in the White House”
By Bobby R. Henry, Sr.
As I sit this morning contemplating the state of our country, I cannot help but reflect on the leadership emanating from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Under Donald Trump, his sycophants and the enablers who surround him, our nation faces situations and complications that echo ancient times. It is in these moments that I find myself leaning more heavily on the wisdom of the Book of Habakkuk, which speaks to the struggles of a people under corrupt rule and reminds us that history, indeed, can repeat itself. There is nothing new under the sun.
From that perspective, I realize that our strength does not come from men who steal, lie, and cheat to hold temporary power, but from the Creator who holds All things. The man in the White House is only doing what has been allowed, perhaps even predestined, for him to do. The more important question is: where does that leave us?
Scripture reminds us, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” We can either run around like Chicken Little shouting that the sky is falling, or we can stand firm on the Rock of Ages, knowing that in Him we have shelter in the midst of any kind of storm. There is a saying worth repeating: “If you pray, don’t worry. If you worry, you haven’t prayed.” But let me be clear: prayer is not a hollow ritual that you just so happen to do. Faith without works is dead. Our prayers must move us to action, but not the kind of action that places misguided faith in man.
The true essence of life is not found in politics, parties, or power, but in honoring the Creator who made us. To live in confusion, fear, or bitterness under the influence of leaders who do not believe is to lose sight of our purpose. Instead, we must worship, serve, and walk faithfully, remembering that destruction comes not from God but from the brokenness of those who reject Him.
So, how do we respond to what comes from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue? We resist succumbing to despair or deception. We place our trust not in the fleeting promises of politicians but in the eternal promises of God. I’m not talking about being so heavenly bound that you’re no earthly good. We pray, we work, we fight when we have to and we stand rooted in faith. That is how we survive and that is how we overcome those who prey from the White House.
