The Lord came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.” 1 Samuel 10:10

     By Bobby R. Henry, Sr.

While attending the home going of a great man, the 30th Grand Basilus of the greatest fraternity in all the world, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., I heard the most simple words with the life changing ability stated by the eulogist will change my life forever.

They can be applied to every situation that you find yourself in when it calls for you to “speak truth to power”.

It’s not a dissertation nor an eloquently written poem, or a sermon preached by one of the greatest preachers that ever walked the face of the earth.

These simple words, once you understand them and take them to heart, you will be able to face any daunting task that requires your innate ability, your God given right to be outspoken for the human rights and liberties of freedom, justice and equality.

When you find yourself confronted by what may appears as insurmountable odds, in a room with opposition and you’re outnumbered 40 to one, I would tell you that these words will give you the strength to rise above the fray holding your head high and unfettered by someone else’s misdiagnosis.

I dare you to ask yourself  how can I overcome, how can I boldly and bravely stand on where God has placed me? If  you speak to yourself and tell those who oppose you these words: “If my presence doesn’t make an impact then my absence won’t make a difference” you can turn defeat into triumph.
