“For America’s Democracy to Survive, Those Who Attempt to Destroy it,  Must Suffer  the Ultimate  Penalty !”    John Johnson II  08/01/23

    By John Johnson II

America’s democracy throughout its existence has faced multiple  threats such as the Civil War followed by two World wars and the January 6, 2021, insurrection.  Yet, none of these threats rise to the level of the current threat posed by former president Trump’s third presidential campaign.

By behaving  as a  fool and an incompetent Mafia boss, Trump managed to get  indicted  for obstruction and convicted for rape. Merriam Webster defines a “fool,”  “as a person  lacking common powers of understanding. Does this definition fit Trump or any of the other Republican presidential candidates?

Before anyone, especially MAGA followers, object to Trump’s characterization as a fool and Mafia boss, answer the following questions: 1) Does Trump know the difference between how to manage a dinner menu and a document labeled “Top Secret”? and 2) Did Trump not know it’s a crime to attempt to violate a subpoena? If the answer is “No” to both questions, voters elected America’s most illiterate  and dangerous president.

Trump’s 2016 presidential election was a nightmare, and his 2020 re-election was a colossal failure, which concluded with a failed insurrection. Despite facing countless lawsuits and criminal indictments, Trump has launched his campaign for  the 2024  presidential election.

Unfortunately, Millions of MAGA followers and donors flock to Trump  rallies to hear a volley of lies and threats of retribution against his enemies. One can’t help but begin to ask what’s the level of sanity of  these followers. They travel great distances to see him, stand in endless lines to hear him spew lies, and donate their hard-earned money without the slightest questions. Is this kind of behavior normal?

Social media, rather than  label these followers as fools,  simply refer to such individuals as lacking critical thinking skills. It’s further suggested that such followers are more likely to exhibit acceptance of the irrational. Consequently, one could conclude that  followers lacking the  ability to think critically can easily experience thought being a fool  or mocked  as a fool.

Trump’s commanding lead in the national polls, of at least 37 percentage points ahead of DeSantis, clearly indicates that he has an iron clad grip on the Republican Party as well as the nomination. It’s unimaginable as to what harm he would cause should he ever again enter the White House.

Paul Harvey, the famous radio icon broadcaster, always concluded his news commentary with the words, “And now you know the rest of the story!”

To imitate Mr. Harvey, the rest of this story is: America’s  democracy stands at a critical juxtaposition with the coming 2024 presidential election. Will Jack Smith, Special Counsel, be able to successfully prosecute Trump as well as convince a jury of his peers to issue a conviction? Thus far, he’s managed to stall or postpone his fate indefinitely.

Hopefully, upon Trump’s conviction, he’ll  for the first-time  face sitting in  a real prison cell for his crimes committed against the United States Government. Or will  America have to rely on   an old “Idiom” which appeared in a book of proverbs by John Ray in 1670, to save its democracy?

John Ray’s  idiom simply reads, “if you  give a man enough rope, he’ll hang himself.” However, with a little tweak, this idiom becomes even more prophetic. ‘If you give Trump enough rope and apply pressure,  he just may literally hang his followers and himself?’ If you’re a non-believer, just ask Trump’s co-defendant, Carlos De Olivera.

    YOU BE THE JUDGE!

    Hopefully upon Trump’s conviction
