It is with deep sorrow that we acknowledge the passing of former State Senator and Representative Matt Meadows — a devoted public servant and a steadfast pillar of the Broward County community.
Senator Meadows dedicated much of his life to public service, serving with distinction in the Florida Senate from 1992 to 1998 and later in the Florida House of Representatives from 2000 until his retirement in 2009, representing District 94. During his tenure, he held key leadership roles, including Democratic Ranking Member of the Government Efficiency & Accountability Council, and was actively involved in committees focused on urban affairs, local governance, budget, and policy development.
Outside the legislature, Senator Meadows was a retired educator whose deep passion for learning and community upliftment left a lasting impact on countless lives. His commitment extended far beyond the classroom and Capitol — he served on the Board of Directors for the Alzheimer’s Association of Broward County and the Area Agency on Aging of Broward County, among many others.
His outstanding service was recognized through numerous honors, including the A.I.F. Champion for Business Award in 2006 and induction into the Dr. Nan S. Hutchinson Broward Senior Hall of Fame in 2005.
Senator Meadows’ legacy is one of tireless dedication, compassionate leadership, and unwavering service to others. His life’s work remains an enduring source of inspiration. We extend our deepest condolences to his beloved wife, Charley Mae Harris, their children — Matthew, Felicia, Debbie, Tommy, and Priscilla — and to all whose lives he touched.
May we continue to honor his memory by striving to build a more just, equitable, and compassionate society.
