FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – On Sunday, June 22, 2025, the Gamma Gamma Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. proudly inducted eight promising young men into its Sigma Beta Club during a special ceremony. With this latest induction, the club’s active membership has now grown to 40 members, one of the largest Sigma Beta Clubs in the region.
The Sigma Beta Club, the national youth auxiliary of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., was established in 1950 to offer mentorship and structured development to young men. It’s motto is “Next generation of leaders accepting the responsibility and loving the challenge.” The program focuses on leadership development, educational achievement, cultural awareness, community service, and personal responsibility.
The eight inductees, dressed in white shirts and blue ties, stood proudly before a supportive audience of family, fraternity brothers, and community members. The ceremony celebrated not just their entry into the club but their commitment to excellence, service, and self-improvement.
Members are required to conduct community service projects that instill a sense of civic responsibility and compassion. These activities include, but are not limited to, serving the elderly, supporting the March of Dimes: March for Babies, assisting Sickle Cell Centers, visiting hospitalized children, volunteering at local libraries, working with children with disabilities, and participating in neighborhood beautification and clean-up efforts.
A major focus area for Sigma Beta Club members is academic achievement and leadership development. Members receive consistent academic support and guidance through both one-on-one and group tutoring sessions, led by dedicated alumni and collegiate members across a range of academic and professional disciplines.
In addition to academic enrichment, the club provides members with access to a variety of well-rounded development opportunities through cultural, social, and athletic programs. Culturally, members attend art shows, theatrical plays, concerts, and museum visits to broaden their appreciation of the arts and history. Socially, the club fosters community and family engagement through events like parties, parent appreciation days, cookouts, and group movie outings. Athletically, members participate in organized activities such as football, basketball, baseball, golf, and bowling, encouraging physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship. These enrichment experiences aim to build confident, informed, and socially responsible young men.
In 2024, the Gamma Gamma Sigma Sigma Beta Club was honored as the State of Florida’s Sigma Beta Club of the Year, a testament to the chapter’s outstanding youth programming and commitment to community uplift.
“The goal of the Sigma Beta Club is to provide our youth with opportunities for growth that many may not otherwise receive,” said Anthony Soloman, local advisor and chapter member. “We’re not just trying to prepare them for college—we’re trying to prepare them for life.”
With 40 members strong and growing, the Gamma Gamma Sigma Sigma Beta Club continues to shine as a beacon of mentorship and leadership in Broward County, carrying forward Phi Beta Sigma’s mission to inspire and empower the next generation.
