     New research that measures how well banks serve communities found that America’s access to banking expanded from 2015 to 2017 – except when it comes to more than 53 million Black and Latinix consumers or others with low incomes or less education.

It’s the Second Reunion of Dixie Court. Residents who have lived there and current residents will celebrate with the Housing Authority for its 80th Anniversary. Dixie Court was the first of the housing authority properties and arose from the thickets and palmettos in 1938.

     Miami-Dade Schools Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho has been named the 2018 National Urban Superintendent of the Year by the Council of Great City Schools, which presented him with the distinguished Green-Garner Award. The announcement came last night during the Council’s 62nd Annual Fall Conference in Baltimore.

     The NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund has described the U. S. government’s use of for-profit private prisons as “an embarrassing and degrading stain on our democracy”. The organization contends “the maintenance and treatment of those who the state assigns to incarceration is the responsibility of the state, not private entities, and especially not those driven by a profit motive.”
