Month: March 2020

This past week for my Spring Break, I traveled to Norfolk, Virginia to visit my family. While there we had a great time, and we also went to a city called Mount Vernon, which was three hours away from Norfolk. We woke up early on March 9 and left the house around 6 A.M. We had breakfast, and a few hours later we had made it to Mount Vernon.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office employs many women who have dedicated their lives to making a significant impact both on and off duty. I am proud of these women and the countless contributions they make to our communities every day.

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) has caused fear and concern across the country. Schools are closed and children may be unsure or afraid of what will happen. It is important we talk to them and answer any questions.

With all the talk about the Coronavirus COVID-19, experts and people alike are trying to figure out which groups are more susceptible to the disease: the elderly? People of Asian descent? African Americans? And one group that is particularly getting a lot of attention is pregnant women. If you are pregnant and are surrounded by the coronavirus, should you be worried?

“I was sitting at home and brainstorming on things that I needed to do, and then the phone started to ring,” stated Rory Gamble, a welder fixture repairman, who joined the UAW in 1974 when he worked at the Ford Motor Co. Dearborn (Mich.) Frame Plant. “The local NAACP chapter president called, and others,” noted Gamble, who in December was named the 13th president of the 85-year-old union.  “It hit me then that, ‘Hey, you’re the first African American president,’” Gamble recalled. “It struck me like a rock. It’s a great accomplishment.”

This is a global pandemic and President Trump has now called this a National Health Emergency, and $50 billion in aid is available from the federal government to control and invest in the economy. America is in a recession, and there is a global recession. There is a need for an economic stimulus program in America.
