The Florida Class 3-M football playoffs began last week with several Broward teams competing for the state title. Perennial power St. Thomas Aquinas defeated Coconut Creek in a lopsided victory 59-14. This week the Raiders will host Delray Atlantic who defeated the Plantation Colonels 34-12. The much anticipated ill-fated Soul Bowl contest between Blanche Ely and Dillard, cancelled in the second quarter because of safety concerns due to overcrowding, has been revitalized in these playoffs as they face off once again at Dillard. Blanche Ely earned the right to face Dillard as a result of having defeated Dwyer 28-0 while Dillard had little resistance in beating Fort Lauderdale 45-20. The Patriots of Miramar, by virtue of their victory over Pembroke Pines Charter 48-0, will play Miami Southridge at Miramar. Southridge defeated the determined  South Broward Bulldogs 20-14, earning the right to advance to the second round. Dr. Krop won a hard fought victory over Belen Jesuit 23-17 propelling them to a second round clash against  the Homestead Broncos who annihilated North Miami 40-0.
