If you, like me during your travels, run across a lot of different people in all kinds of circumstances, and if you have a building in the city or the hood, nine times out of 10 your building will be a resting place for the homeless and the downtrodden. My daddy told us to always have our door open because we never know when somebody will be in need.
We see people who have fallen on hard times, people who have given up, people who just need a second chance thrown out in our communities like discarded pieces of broken and tatter furniture.
I know that sometimes our hearts become harden because of all of the situations that present themselves in human form that come knocking at our doors, bamming against our souls as people frightened from the darkness, and they want to find a building that has some light, so they come to us, bewildered and frustrated, crying out for help.
What do we do? Do we turn Our backs and put all of them in one basket and say to ourselves, “all this is just another game with a different face.”
As long as we live, frustrations, disappointments and the thought of giving up will be forever present in our lives, and we will see it in one form or another.
I’ve had my share of that and it has worn my pants out where my knees rest and put gray hairs and bald spots where a black solid Afro once was.
On yesterday a brother who sleeps or should I say finds respite on our grounds, approached me asking for work.
In our conversation he said and I quote “I was asking God for a place where I could lay my head down free from fear and he told me to come to this building.” He shared some other things with me as well which allowed me to understand that he was reaching out for help.
Family, we don’t know how we as the Bible says “entertain Angels” and yet we turn our backs on them. I thank God that I didn’t turn my back on the brother and that he was still here after telling me he wanted to give up and he knew “what time the train comes by”.
Let us all remember that if everybody does a little bit then nobody has to do a lot.
“Dear God in the name of Jesus. Father I thank you for giving me something to share and not be afraid to share it with others. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen
