    Broward Tuskegee Alumni moving forward

    By Sylvester Robinson

Since reorganizing during the last two calendar years, the Broward County Tuskegee Alumni Club has been involved in several successful ventures positively impacting alumni, students, friends, and supporters of Tuskegee. On the first Sunday in April, alums gathered at Mt. Hermon AME in Fort Lauderdale to celebrate Tuskegee’s 132nd anniversary.                Additionally and with great enthusiasm, the BCTAC a-warded a $1500 scholarship to Dillard High School senior honor student Brianna Allen who will enroll in the fall, 2013.

Brianna, a magnet student possessing exceptional academic credentials, has a 3.7 GPA, ranks 41 out of 303 in her senior class, was nominated as one of the 2013 BCAA scholar athletes in track and field and cheerleading, achieved a 1340 SAT score and an ACT composite score of 18 plans to major in Supply Chain Management while minoring in Pre-Denistry.

With the staunch support of her mother, Marcia Butler, other family members and our local alumni organization, her success is an inevitability.

The BCTAC has accomplished several objectives in its relatively brief resurgence: established a $25,000 book endowment, held consecutive Super Bowl scholarship fundraisers, had representatives at the 2012 Tuskegee graduation, the biennial meeting in New Orleans, and Pat Taylor Johnson traveled to Tampa where the local alumni organization hosted TU President Dr. Gilbert Roshon. Finally, our active membership has seen tremendous growth and as your president, I implore and encourage TU alumni and friends to join us as we endeavor to make the BCTAC the largest and most effective alumni club in the country.
