Revelation in the Bible talks about mankind’s apocalyptic fate for their transgressions and the faltering ways of churches. Now our Nation’s democracy faces its own Revelation of a perilous fate. Such a fate, results when voters knowingly elect an unfit and criminal minded president.
Linked to this Revelation is the warning that an unfit president, as the Commander-In-Chief of the Military, becomes a threat to democracy. Will Generals follow the orders of a defeated president who refuses to leave office? The 147 Republican Congresspersons who attempted to derail the election results also presented a significant threat. These scenarios alone constituted an unprecedented warning.
Since a problem involving the transfer of presidential powers has never occurred in America, the U.S. Constitution doesn’t provide an answer. The fact that little if any attention has focused on addressing this issue is unconscionable. This too is a warning of pending peril.
Remember, a sizable number of Republican Congresspersons overtly as well as covertly participated in Trump’s attempted coup and haven’t incurred any punishment. America’s democracy is of little value if Congresspersons’ oaths are meaningless.
Another “Revelation” from the insurrection unfolded regarding why pleas for help from Capitol police went unanswered. Despite numerus Congressional hearings no clear reasons for the delay were uncovered. This delay nearly led to the complete seizure of the Capitol Building.
It’s known that the Defense Department leaders enacted odd restrictions against deploying the National Guards on the day of the insurrection. These restrictions delayed urgent reinforcement for
hours. Again, this lack of clear communication is another warning that can’t go uninvestigated.
Did Trump, who plotted and ignited the insurrection, also order defense leaders to delay providing National Guards’ support? If he did, why did they follow those orders? Would they have heeded his orders if he’d recklessly invoked the Insurrection Act of 1807?
There’s no way these Generals weren’t watching the same mayhem on their TV’s. Who’s to say that Generals without codified language in the Constitution knew how to react. This omission could’ve endangered our democracy.
Fortunately, the Generals’ integrity motivated them to heed a call from Vice President Pence directing them to dispatch the National Guards. It was reported that Trump watched the mob’s terror unaware that Vice President Pence had usurp his authority. This too constituted a serious warning.
Consequently, former president Trump’s dereliction of duty to protect the Nation’s people and secret documents represented threats to our democracy. Congress must address these warning signs immediately.
Astonishingly, history too has provided America with a clear Revelation regarding the perilous fate of past great empires. It’s important to heed the reasons for their collapse. Unfortunately, their perilous fate resulted from ineptitude of leaders, lack of integrity, bankruptcy from endless wars & debt, and a loss of the fundamental belief in their societal values and laws.
Trump has provided America with his own Book of Revelation. He’ threatened retribution against political opponents, judges, protesters, and former Vice President Mike Pence. Once his legal battles
escalated, he then issued threats of death and destruction for the Manhattan district attorney. Undoubtedly, Trump does not realize that Romans 12:19-21, reads, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.
Should America fail to heed the revelations gleaned from history as well as from events currently unfolding, such as countless wars and a radicalized Republican Party, this Nation’s perilous fate will merely become a historical footnote.
Finally, America must heed the perilous consequences of these so-called wars. Rather, they’re senseless and endless struggles that enrich the industrial war complex at the expense of countless murders, wasted resources and devastating destruction.
