Off season for the Dolphins brass presents some challenges as they grapple with a salary cap in excess of $40,000,000 while contemplating resigning DT Dexter Lawrence and OL  Robert Hunt and Conner Williams. Tua may demand a contract in excess of $50,000,000 so retaining and strengthening the offensive line is vitally important. When asked in an end of the press conference about areas of improvement for Tua, and assessing his ability and mobility to make plays with his legs while protecting himself, Coach McDaniel answered in coach speak to me when he stated,  “I just want to see him make sure the curve continues to be exponential in his growth.” The truth be told: he needs max protection, pocket maneuverability, the strength to break free when in the grasp and better proficiency in disciphering defenses.

While the Miami Heat have been on a 3 game losing skid, the NBA generally is heating up. On the same day that the late great Kobe Bryant scored 81points in a game, Joel Imbiid tallied 70 against the San Antonio Spurs, and Minnesota’s Karl Anthony Towns scored 62 in a losing effort to  the Charlotte Hornets, one of the weaker teams in the league.

I always felt the rule where a player fumbled the ball uncovered through the end zone was too harsh a penalty on the offense. Treated as a turnover , presently, it is placed on the 20 yard line and given to opponent, first and ten. At max, it should be a 5 yard penalty and loss of down. We’ll see what the experts come up with.

The Denny’s OBC Labor Day Weekend will feature two prominent HBCU schools, Alabama State University Hornets vs. North Carolina Central University Eagles on 9-1-24 at the Hardrock.

Though FAMU has not named a replacement for departed Willie Simmons, the interest in job is extraordinary with over 45 applicants applying according to reports. Even Deion Sanders has offered his assistance. The goal is to have a coach in place prior to the February 7 National Signing Day. Interim coach  Neal Colzie is apparent favorite among players with assistant Billy Rolle a close second. Stay tuned.
