Flooker T. Adams, (A/K/A Niam Aquil), was born in Sandersville, Ga. (Washington County) where he grew up and worked on the farms until his early teens. At the age of 17, in the 1950s, he entered the U.S. Army, where he was sent to Fort Bliss, Tex., for basic training. He was stationed in Fort Johnson, La. before being deployed to South Korea, where he fought on the front line in the Korean War until a ceasefire was called and the war ended. He was stationed in Fort Carson, Colorado where he received an honorable discharge. He also served eight years in the Army reserve. After serving four years in the Army and traveling the world, he returned to GA where he soon realized that he could no longer live during the Jim Crow era. He relocated to Hallandale, Fla. and Tampa, Fla. where he became a handyman and acquired many projects for homeowners. During that time, he married Betty Jean Wiley, who preceded him in death. From that union nine children, three sons and six daughters, were born. He gained four bonus sons, whom he treated as his biological sons. He also had three daughters from previous relationships.
In the early 1960s he was introduced to Islam and was soon converted under the leadership of The Honorable Elijah Muhammad. He was a devout Muslim throughout
In 1969, he became an entrepreneur by operating many businesses, such as lawn service, grocery store, restaurant, and roof repairs. During those years of establishing himself he attended construction school where he became a licensed roofer and general contractor. He also obtained his auto dealership license.
In the 1970s he invested in rehabbing and flipping properties. He extended his business by incorporating Flooker Roofing, Inc and F.A. Home Improvement in 1982. Throughout Broward County he secured several high-rise roofing and construction projects under the county and federal programs.
He completed projects for the City of Fort Lauderdale Housing Authority, Broward County Housing Authority, Broward County Community Development, and the Broward County Minority Builders Coalitions, Inc. He also worked as a roof installer for Sears and Home Depot. He also worked as an interior remodeler for Lowes. He was the first Black general contractor to work for Broward County under the CRA. He was the first to integrate the Broward Estate subdivision (Parkway).
He dedicated his life to serving the community and helping others. In June 2020, Mayor Dale Holness presented him with the Proclamation issued by Broward County that declared June 6, 2020, Flooker T, Adams Day.
His favorite hobbies were cooking on the grill, playing checkers, watching MSNBC, Facebook, and spending quality time with his family and friends.
On July 30, 2023, he took his well-deserved rest and transitioned to Jannah.
