By Family and Friends | A Special Birthday Tribute

BOYNTON BEACH, FL — Some people have a remarkable gift for bringing happiness wherever they go. Their presence lights up a room, their laughter lifts spirits, and their love leaves a lasting impression on everyone they  encounter. For family and friends of Shirley Mobley, she is that extraordinary person.

Affectionately known as the “Turn-Up Queen,” Shirley is a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother,  sister, aunt, and friend whose vibrant personality, unwavering faith, and devotion to family have made her a treasured presence in countless lives.

On Saturday, November 7, 2026, family members, friends, and loved ones are scheduled to gather at Madness Buffet, 299 S. Pompano Parkway in Pompano Beach, Florida, for her 75th birthday celebration honoring this remarkable woman.

The celebration will include special presentations recognizing Shirley’s life and contributions from her sisters, the City of Boynton Beach Commissioners’ Office, and Suncoast Church of Christ in Hypoluxo, Florida, where she faithfully worships under the spiritual leadership of Minister Brother Baptiste Joseph.

A Life Rooted in Strength, Education, and Perseverance

Shirley’s journey is one marked by resilience, determination, and grace.

Growing up during a transformative period in American history, Shirley received her early education in Broward County’s segregated school system. During the 1965–1966 school year, the integration of Broward County schools brought significant changes to her  educational experience and that of countless other African American students.

Having anticipated attending the well-known Dillard Comprehensive High School, Shirley was instead assigned to Stranahan High School as the school system transitioned toward integration.

This historic shift represented more than a change in schools. It marked a defining chapter in her generation’s pursuit of educational opportunity and equality.

Despite the challenges of a changing society, Shirley continued to pursue her education and personal aspirations.

She attended Bethune-Cookman College, where she studied for three and a half years. During her college experience, her charm, confidence, and magnetic personality were recognized when she was crowned Miss Sophomore in 1970.

Her professional journey was equally distinguished. Shirley dedicated 28 years of service to the Sun Sentinel, working as a Disability Claims Specialist. After nearly three decades of commitment and hard work, she retired on October 15, 2015.

Today, Shirley embraces retirement with the same enthusiasm, energy, and appreciation for life that have always defined her.

A Beautiful Legacy of Love and Family

At the heart of Shirley’s life is her family.

She shared 51 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Lee Mobley, before his passing in 2023. Their enduring union was a testament to love, partnership, and commitment.

Together, they built a family that continues to reflect the values they cherished.

Shirley is the proud mother of Valencia and Marlon, and she warmly embraces her daughter-in-law, Charlotte, as part of the family. She is the loving grandmother of six grandchildren: Jeremy, Jalyn, Marlon Jr., Sean, Victoria, and Jordan.

Her family legacy continues through her two great-grandchildren, Oshun and Jeremy Jr., as well as her grandson-in-law, Jimi.

For Shirley, family is more than a bond of blood. It is a lifelong commitment to showing up, staying connected, celebrating accomplishments, and supporting one another through every season of life.

She is known for preserving treasured family photographs, sharing meaningful memories, recognizing family milestones, and ensuring that special moments are never forgotten.

Her dedication to keeping relatives connected has earned her a special place in the hearts of generations.

The “Turn-Up Queen” Who Keeps Everyone Smiling

To know Shirley is to know joy.

Her family describes her as a woman whose energy is contagious, whose kindness is genuine, and whose presence makes even the most ordinary gathering feel like a celebration.

In a heartfelt tribute, Jacob and Sheray Mobley and their family affectionately referred to Shirley as their beloved “Turn-Up Queen.”

“Auntie Shirley is known as the Turn-Up Queen! She has been the same way for as long as I can remember — a true ball of energy!”

Their tribute celebrated Shirley’s extraordinary ability to radiate peace, love, kindness, and happiness, even during life’s difficult moments.

They also expressed deep appreciation for her willingness to assist and care for family members, particularly their parents, whenever help is needed.

“The world needs more Auntie Shirleys!” the family lovingly declared, recognizing her gift for making everyone around her feel valued, welcomed, and loved.

A Grandmother’s Love That Spans Generations

Shirley’s grandchildren also shared their heartfelt appreciation for the wisdom, guidance, and countless memories she has given them.

In a loving birthday message, Marlon, Sean, and Victoria expressed their gratitude:

“We love you so much and are so blessed to have you in our lives! Thank you for all the love, wisdom, and memories you’ve given us over the years.”

They offered prayers for continued good health, happiness, and many more beautiful years together.

Their words reflect the deep affection Shirley has inspired throughout her family and the lasting impact of her love across generations.

The Special Gift of Being “Auntie Shirley”

Among the many family members whose lives Shirley has touched is her nephew, Van Gray, whom she affectionately nicknamed “Mookie Nuke” when he was a young child. The name has remained a treasured expression of their special bond, bringing him joy whenever he hears his aunt lovingly call him by it.

In a heartfelt tribute on behalf of the Ethridge and Kelly families, Van described his aunt as a “Royal Queen” whose beautiful spirit, infectious happiness, and unconditional love have made her an irreplaceable part of their lives.

“You can’t be in Auntie’s presence and be sad or down. Auntie stays clothed in joy, peace, and happiness, bringing nothing but love.”

Van also celebrated Shirley’s role as the family’s unofficial historian, preserving photographs, sharing good news, and bringing relatives together to honor milestones and memories.

For Van, “Mookie Nuke” is far more than a childhood nickname. It is a lasting reminder of the unique love and affection he shares with his aunt. As his tribute so warmly expressed, the Ethridge and Kelly families have been blessed by Shirley’s special gift for keeping everyone connected — a spirit truly “seasoned in love.”

A Woman of Faith, Gratitude, and Purpose

Throughout her life’s journey, Shirley’s faith has remained an important foundation.

As a member of Suncoast Church of Christ in Hypoluxo, she continues to embrace the values of love, fellowship, service, and spiritual devotion.

Her joyful approach to life serves as an inspiration to those around her, reminding family and friends that happiness is often found in the simplest moments: sharing a meal, offering a helping hand, preserving a memory, or bringing a smile to someone’s face.

Her story also reflects the experiences of a generation that witnessed historic social change, worked diligently to build better opportunities, and passed down enduring values of perseverance, faith, and family unity.

Celebrating a Life That Continues to Inspire

As Shirley Mobley celebrates another beautiful chapter of life, her family and friends honor far more than a birthday.

They celebrate a woman who has loved deeply, worked faithfully, overcome challenges, raised a beautiful family, and spent a lifetime spreading joy.

They celebrate a devoted wife whose 51-year marriage left a legacy of commitment; a loving mother and grandmother whose influence reaches across generations; a sister and aunt whose presence strengthens family bonds; and a woman whose faith and joyful spirit continue to inspire everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Above all, they celebrate Shirley Mobley — a woman whose greatest legacy is not measured simply by the years she has lived, but by the countless lives she has touched.

Her family and friends extend their heartfelt birthday wishes, praying that God continues to bless her with good health, abundant happiness, enduring peace, and many more years of beautiful memories.

    Happy 75th Birthday, Shirley Mobley!

May your light continue to shine, your laughter continue to fill every room, and your extraordinary love continue to unite generations.

With love and appreciation from your family, friends, and all whose lives you have brightened.

and Suncoast Church of Christ in Hypoluxo Florida The celebration will include special presentations recognizing Shirley’s life and contributions from her sisters the City of Boynton Beach Commissioners’ Office where she faithfully worships under the spiritual leadership of Minister Brother Baptiste Joseph.
