Honor student beaten, who had her teeth knocked out by cops, still faces three to five years in prison

    By Yolanda Spivey

Gabby Calhoun is settling down and doing quite well in her first year at Wiley College in Marshall, Texas. She’s maintaining a 4.0 grade point average despite being stressed out over her impending court date to fight charges that she assaulted a police officer.

Just to quickly recap her story, Gabby is an honor student who was brutally beaten by Bloomington, IL police officers back in June. She was hit in the face with a night stick by a female officer, which knocked out her teeth. She was choked unconscious and when she came to, she was forced to walk across a parking lot full of people with her naked chest exposed. She suffered a concussion and had to spend two days in jail with limited medical attention. Since then she had to have emergency dental reconstruction surgery and is still left with bruises over her body.

Now, Gabby is in another fight—she is facing two felony charges that might send her to jail for three to five years. She has never been in trouble before and she is in desperate need of your help.

Friends and family have been actively trying to raise funds for Gabby’s legal defense fund.  Most recently, they have set up a ‘Go Fund Me’ account where the public can donate towards her legal fees. http://www.gofundme.com/4bndxs

Also Gabby is having a prayer breakfast on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 10 a.m., at Wiley College. There is a $20 donation for those who would like to attend. The address is: Wiley College/ Pemberton Dining Room 711 Wiley Ave Marshall, TX 65760

Gabby states, “I recently lost my attorney for not being able to pay the fee due. Please help me fight for justice.”

Her trial begins on Wednesday, Nov. 27. She is asking that the public donate any amount they can.
