The cost of a college education is expensive. Unfortunately, the cost of going to college will deter many prospective students from even applying. For so many, getting financial aid can be a headache, especially with having to repay it back after graduation. For others who don’t play sports, getting a full scholarship will seem impossible. Going to college and getting a quality education should be available to all those who desire it.

Radio Personality, Tom Joyner has announced that his foundation –The Tom Joyner Foundation will be providing a ‘Full Ride’ scholarship program to one student planning to attend a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in 2014.

Joyner, who is the chairman of his foundation said, “I want to help a graduating high school senior with a chance to attend a Black college to pursue their dreams.”

According to the AFRO, ‘past Full Ride Scholars have impressive backgrounds, including the first winner, Britney Wilson, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., who graduated from Howard University, last year. She is now in her first year of law school at the University of Pennsylvania. She impressed the Foundation’s scholarship committee with her solid academic record and her knowledge of local, national and international politics. Cheyenne Boyce of Detroit is now a senior at Spelman College, where she is an international relations major who is fluent in Japanese.’

Students who receive the ‘full ride’ tuition will receive a stipend for up to 10 semesters. This stipend will cover books, room, and board. In addition to this, there will be academic requirements that must be met each semester in order to renew the funds each year.

Graduating high school students are encouraged to apply. To download the application, go to the Tom Joyner Foundation website at http://tomjoynerfoundation.org/. Applications must be postmarked by January 17, 2014.
