Sexuality Conference on World AIDS Day

    Submitted by Katina Davis

The Broward County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. partnered with Broward Health will present its Family and Adolescent Health and Sexuality Conference on World Aids Day, Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Delevoe Park and Urban League of Broward County, Community Empowerment Center in Fort Lauderdale. Adults and all youth grades six through 12 are invited and encouraged to attend this informative and enlightening conference.

The conference will offer attendees a variety of sessions that are relevant to their physical, social and emotional growth and development. Presenters will include medical, public health and social work professionals who will speak to and answer questions about understanding Human Sexuality, HIV/AIDS, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Teen Pregnancy Prevention, and Mental/Emotional Health. Onsite testing for HIV will be provided by staff from Broward Health, and will be available throughout the conference.

The conference is co-sponsored by Broward Health and Delta Education and Life Development Foundation. Registration and continental breakfast will begin at 8 am. Sessions will begin at 9 am. Health and wellness vendors will also be on hand. Breakfast and lunch will be provided free to all participants.

This conference will provide adults and teens with the opportunity to receive (concrete) information from experts in the health professions. Additionally, it will afford them the opportunity to engage and participate, among peers, in discussions about issues that are relevant to, and may be currently impacting them. The intent is to equip them with the knowledge and information necessary to aid them in making good, life-affirming decisions.

For additional information contact Katina Kennedy, conference co-chair, at adhealth@bcacdst.org or P. O. Box 9504, Fort Lauderdale, Fla. 33310-9504 (954) 522-2840 (Voice Mail).
