New Life Community Pharmacy presents the 18th annual Nike Florida All Star Football Game hosted

    By Yvette N. Harris

MIAMI, FL — Tournament of Champions,Inc.(TOC), celebrating 20 years of fostering the academic and athletic growth of Florida’s young aspiring athletes will host their 18th annual Nike Florida All Star Football Game on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at Traz Powell Stadium, 11380 N.W. 27 Ave., Miami, Fla. New Life Community Pharmacy is the presenting sponsor. Tailgate activities start at 2:30 p.m. and the game kicks off at 7:30 p.m.

This is the 18th year that Nike has partnered with TOC for this competitive event. The game will include some of Florida’s most elite players competing for the coveted notoriety title, bragging rights and scholarships. Florida has more NFL players than any other region in the United States. In addition, Miami has more NFL players than any other city. Ninety-five percent of all NFL players born in South Florida have competed in TOC’s South Florida All-Star Football Game.  Florida All-Stars will practice at Mitchell Moore Park in Pompano Beach Dec. 18-20 5 to 7 p.m. and coached by Jupiter Christian Bill Powers. Miami Dade will practice at Moore Park in Miami Dec. 18-20 from 6 to 8 p.m. and coached by State Champion Tim “Ice” Harris of Booker T. Washington High.

TOC continues their legacy of producing a myriad of sporting events inclusive of the premier football and basketball events for high school athletes in South Florida. Some of  their signature events set for this year include:

    •     TOC’s annual “Shoot for the Stars”: A Human Development/Positive Peer Leadership Training Symposium. The symposium is designed to educate and prepare high school student athletes for a smooth and successful  graduation transition and subsequent collegiate matriculation. It provides firsthand knowledge of what to expect as a collegiate athlete and how to balance these pressures and demands. The facilitators use presentations, role-playing, skits and interactive workshops, as well as group breakout sessions. All 100 seniors must attend the symposium, which is a knock off of the NBA-NFL Rookie orientation.

    •     TOC celebrates with their annual holiday celebration Soiree on Friday, Dec. 21. The event will be held at the JW Marquis, (255 Biscayne Blvd. Way). This event serves as an opportunity for TOC to thank all who have partnered with them to help support the young athletes of Florida. The event is free and an RSVP is required to attend. Toys will be collected for the Nine Mile Charitable Trust in Nine Mile, Jamaica.

    •     The Nike Football Combine Saturday,  Jan. 5, 2013 at FIU North Stadium. FREE combine for 1200 South Florida youths.

    •     The 18th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Basketball Classic beginning Friday, Jan. 18-19 at Irvin Baulkman Arena, 1781 NW 95 St., Miami. Twenty-four of the best men basketball teams and players in Florida.

“We remain committed to providing the necessary tools that our athletes can use to help them on their journey through sports. Pre-paring them for life beyond sports is a crucial aspect of our program. At halftime of football game TOC, INC will present a $10,000 donation of shoes to three area high schools. We appreciate the support we have received to help continue foster to this platform,” states TOC Founder, Wesley Frater.

“In addition to our commitment to everyday excellence in the Healthcare industry, New Life Community Pharmacy strongly believes in investing in our community. As such, it is with great pleasure that we continue to extend our branch of community involvement by fostering the growth of our most treasured asset: our youth,” states Dr. Marsha Mallett.
