    A fine lady has taken her welcome rest

    Yvonne Grant Johnson was born May 7, 1938 to Joseph and Arodie Hooker(deceased) in Silver Creek Mississippi. She transitioned to eternal rest on Wednesday, January 12, 2022.

    Young Yvonne attended Lucas Elementary School, Prentiss Normal & Industrial High School and graduated from Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee Alabama with a major in Commercial Dietetics. She had a love for music and  in high school she play the piano for four different churches and still had time to hone her skills in sewing. As a seamstress she made most of her clothes in high school and college and was quite fashionable.

    After locating to South Florida, Yvonne worked as a dietitian at the historic Providence Hospital. She would go on to use her college education as the cafeteria manager at Walker, Dillard and Larkdale Elementary Schools and she served in food services management and production at Sheridan Vocational. Yvonne retired from the food services to work with her husband in creating one of the most successful land mark entertainment Black business in Broward County, Troy’s Lounge.

    Yvonne love to travel with family and friends. From coast to coast she collected fond memories of which she treasured all of her life. Yvonne was happily married to the lake Tylus Andrew Grant, Jr. to this union four children were born. She was a believer in serving throughout Broward  and surrounding counties. Supporting her children and many others as a volunteer with the Fort Lauderdale Western Tigers youth football league and Saint Thomas Aquinas High School.

    Throughout her Christian journey she was a member of Worldwide Christian Center in Pompano Beach, Florida, St. John Missionary Baptist Church Boynton Beach, Florida and until her death she was a devoted member of the New Mount Olive Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale Florida. She was a member of several organizations to include: Zeta Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. the Fort Lauderdale Chapter of Links, Inc. and the Royal Red Sisters of South Florida Red Hat Society. Yvonne was preceded in death by Tylus Andrew Grant, Jr. and Charles Johnson. She leaves to cherish her love and memories her children Tony Renee(Andre), Tracy Yvette, Troy Jennings(Joi), Terri Lynn, and a very large extended family of grandchildren, family and friends.
