    A Reflection of Life

    Willie Floyd Clarington died October 20, 2022. Mr. Willie F. Clarington was a retired resident of Mcdonough, GA.

    Willie Clarington graduated from FAMU in 1962 and remained a loyal supporter of his alma mater. He later continued his education earning a master’s degree in Administration and Supervision. He had a brief stint in the NFL with the New York Giants and later had a tryout with the Denver Broncos. He also played Semi-Pro Football with the Miami Bombers and the Daytona Beach Thunderbirds for a brief period He went on to coach football at Mays High School. He was part of the staff that led the Mays Football team to an 11-0 football season and their first state title.

    Willie was the husband of Mable Fountain Clarington of 58 years and the father of Michael, Anitris, Veronica, and Daron. Willie Clarington began his career in education as a teacher at A.L. Lewis Elementary school. He later became an administrator in the Dade County Community School system, working at Naranja Elementary, Richmond Heights Middle, and Riviera Middle Schools. He enjoyed developing programs and finding courses that benefitted community school students. Willie also had an entrepreneurial spirit which inspired him to start Mr. C’s Lawn Service for over 20 years.

    Other important accomplishments of Mr. Willie F. Clarington:

    High School Football Awards

    – 1955-1956 – Member of the Conference Championship Team

    – 1957 -Selected to the Big 9 All-Conference Team (All State)

    – 2008 – Nominated for the Best 100 of all-Time Miami-Dade County Football players

    College Football Awards

    – 1958-1959 – Member of the All-Conference Football Team

    – 1959 – Member of the Black College Football National Championship Team

    – 1960-1961 – Member of the all-conference football team

    – 1960 – 3rd Team All-Conference

    – 1961 – Member of the Black College Football National Championship Team, 1st Team All-Conference, Outstanding Lineman of the Year Award

    – 2003 – He was honored as a FAMU Hall of Fame inductee
