Chaos! The Republican Party policies related to gun safety and access almost got their nominee killed – yet they pulled out their old gaslighting play book and found a way to blame Joe Biden knowing full well the perpetrator was a republican. It was the Republican nominee and his surrogates’ aggressive rhetoric that infused vitriol into our politics lighting. the match that fuels mental instability. Joe Biden could have piled on with negativity; instead he called to make sure he was alright. quickly denounced the act that nearly took the man’s life and asked the same from the country. Those acts of kindness and humanity were repaid with name calling and ugly politics. It’s a special kind of man that couldn’t even recognize or graciously accept the decency of Joe Biden’s out reached hand. Instead, he held up his fist while being lifted and consoled by a female Secret Service Officer his party loves to denigrate and quickly returned to escalating the incendiary rhetoric. Even more egregious, blasphemously touting his escape from death as divine intervention. What a human being! Whether you are a democrat or a republican, decent human beings – and there are decent republicans – reject this kind of ugliness.

The lead editorial in my newspaper last week was “Why change horses in the middle of the stream?” It was my message then and it is the same message now. The Biden – Harris Team was a duo of two competent, capable, caring individuals. One part of that duo – Joe Biden, watched his once unified disciplined party begin to crumble amidst the performance of one debate. While recognizing it was not his finest hour, he also knew that the party faithful asking him to step down were acting out of fear. Fear of the consequences the alternative ticket would bring. Rather than watch the disintegration continue, Joe Biden, being the decent and honorable man that he is, decided to put country first and back out of the race. Concurrently, he endorsed his Vice President, Kamala Harris – to replace him as head of the presidential ticket.

Let’s remember it was the Biden-Harris Team that turned this economy around. It was the Biden-Harris Team that waged war with those that would take away women healthcare options. It was the Biden-Harris Team that said middle America deserves to earn a decent living and should not disproportionately bear the financial brunt of rebuilding America with a tax structure that favors billionaires.

There is a lot more work to be done. Restoration of rights that are systematically being taken away, building that middle class with decent jobs that feed and educate families are just a few. The Harris component of the Team remains. Let’s shore up with a Vice-Presidential nominee we can get behind. It is time to acknowledge that everyone living in America, a nation of immigrants, deserves a right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness – each making its contribution to the greatness we experience. Embracing all Americans is a basic principle that we should all adopt. It was apparently good enough for the former President and his Vice-Presidential nominee through their pick in spouses, it is certainly good enough for the rest of us.

Let’s get behind Kamala Harris and get the job done. Ignore the ugly gutter politics that are sure to surface in the coming days. Get out there and do your part. The energy is growing. The next few weeks leading up to the Democratic convention will be chaotic but let’s stay the course!
