Florida A&M University (FAMU) climbed to 103 among top public universities as it continued to consolidate its place as the highest-ranked public Historically Black College and University (HBCU), according to U.S. News & World Report 2022-2023 ranking.Â
These opportunities have not only existed in the classroom but also on the playing field. HBCU sports programs were critical in producing Hall of Fame athletes like NFL running back Walter Payton and NBA guard Earl âThe Pearlâ Monroe. Black colleges â and were critical in establishing football and basketball as the so-called âtraditionally Blackâ sports that they are today â also gave chances to many student-athletes who at one point in time were not allowed to compete at traditional powerhouse universities and who were overlooked by coaches at bigger universities simply because of the color of their skin.Â
The late legendary athlete and activist Muhammad Ali transformed the landscape of sports, and a new musical that celebrates his storied legacy is coming to Broadway, Broadway World reported.

Weâve all heard about the restrictive voter suppression laws that far-right state legislatures are passing. Weâve heard about the crackdowns on voting hours and mail-in voting, and even on giving food and water to voters in long lines. But we donât hear enough about redistricting as another weapon being used to intimidate voters and keep us from exercising our constitutional rights. It is erasing us from Congress and state legislatures. We need to call it out and challenge it where we see it.

The January 6 committee has done democracy a big favor by dragging important truths into the light of day. We canât turn away from them. To preserve our country and our freedoms, we must recognize that they are threatened. And we must act to protect them.
