        If something happens to you, whether negative or positive, do you evaluate the intention of that energy? I remember growing up and getting in trouble for things that I wasn’t aware of. Yes I put the aluminum Easy Bake Oven pan in microwave when my oven wasn’t cooking for me. I was a child. I didn’t know what was going on when I saw the sparks flying in microwave after pressing Start. All I knew is that I saw food being cooked in the microwave prior, and I wanted to cook my cake. It looked like a great Plan B to me, but my mother didn’t think so. Needless to say, that experiment ended with an old-fashioned whooping.

     For Floridians, mosquitoes are nothing new. In fact, since Florida temperatures are typically always above 50 degrees, mosquitoes are present in Florida year-round. We know one thing for certain, with the rainy and warmer season right around the corner, mosquitoes will be out in full swing.

“Hate always terrorizes. That’s the intention. As an African American woman who came of age during the Civil Rights era, I know at heart how hate works to harm some and paralyze or, at least, to immobilize others. But movement is life. It’s certainly the way forward if Democracy is to survive and its aspirational tenets of equality are to be actualized. This is why we must see hateful acts, and their progenitors, hate speech on all forms of media, as threats to our collective health, well-being and future existence.

In 2019, a federal appeals court ruled that the school board in Washington State was correct when it fired Coach Joe Kennedy for praying publicly. A judge of the Ninth Circuit said, “A coach’s duty to serve as a good role model requires the coach to refrain from any manifestation of religious faith — even when the coach is plainly not on duty.” Where does freedom start and stop? Kennedy’s case has sparked controversy, landing in the Supreme Court this past week debating just how far can a person express religious freedom in public spaces.

       Roy is a 1950 graduate of Anderson High School in Anderson, Indiana. He also excelled at track, football, and basketball in high school. He was a member of a record setting 880 relay team as well as setting individual records in the high jump & high hurdles. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from the Florida A&M University and a master’s degree from Ball State University.
