     We ring the bell for freedom, democracy, and majority rule. We sound the clarion call for freedom fighters as we urge Floridians to reach out to Mr. Ben Frazier and the Northside Coalition and pledge support to a campaign to make Governor Ron DeSantis accountable. We also ask lovers of freedom to call the offices of Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott and demand they vote for the John Lewis Voting Rights Act and the Freedom to Vote Act. These three public servants, who have become “three blind mice” to equality for all, must be made accountable now.

       Bobby Henry has been nothing but kind to me, especially considering that, up until today I’ve never met the man in person. But when he asked me to introduce him I knew I was ill-equipped.

     Emmett Till, a Chicago teen killed in the 1950s for the color of his skin, will be awarded a Congressional Gold Medal. The then teen’s mother, Mamie Till-Mobley, will also be awarded after she asked for the opening of the casket during burial to decry the social vice that led to the murder of her son.

White House Senior Advisor Cedric Richmond, who served as Louisiana’s representative in the U.S. House for a decade before assuming his current role as the White House Office of Public Engagement Director, said during a Zoom gathering of reporters, that voting rights are the “bedrock of democracy.”

     On Saturday night, an FBI hostage rescue team breached a synagogue in Colleyville, Texas. They safely recovered the three remaining captives after a nearly 11-hour hostage situation. According to the authorities, the suspect is dead. Four people, including a rabbi, were initially taken hostage. One of the hostages were released unarmed around 5 p.m. Two law enforcement officers told CNN that investigators believe the hostage taker may have been motivated to release Aafia Siddiqui. Authorities are not revealing the suspect’s identity due to the ongoing investigation.

     Action for Literacy Day will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the park at 1450 W. Sunrise Blvd. and include reading-oriented games, arts and crafts and a special scavenger hunt that will have participants chasing clues all over the park. The event is aimed at children in grades three and under.
