What Is The Value Of Your Vote?

On December 31, most African American churches have a watch night service. Watch Night, also called Freedom’s Eve, Christian religious service held on New Year’s Eve and associated, in many African American churches, with a celebration and remembrance of the Emancipation Proclamation (enacted January 1, 1863), which freed slaves in the Confederate states during the American Civil War.

We hope everyone has a great Christmas and happy new year! Can you believe that 2019 is over and so is the 2010 decade! At the start of the decade, I was an only child in daycare, and now I’m a big sister about to enter high school with two little brothers.

For the new decade, two South Florida educators, Dr. Edward Robinson and wife Constance, have created a modern day superhero for literacy named, “Readman,” for children grades K-4 in hopes to get them excited about picking up a book and just read! The fictional superhero officially launched on Nov. 19, 2019 at the Historic Hampton House.

Danielle Outlaw is the first Black woman ever to become Philadelphia’s police commissioner. Her recent appointment came just a few months after the department started dealing with several controversies including the involvement of its former commissioner in sexual harassment scandals.

     “I am very proud that the Tiger Trail Festival is celebrating its 25th anniversary,” said Edward Phillips, event chairperson. “Originally, this program was conceived to celebrate the importance of Black History Month, but today in the spirit of inclusion, the festival honors ‘Agents of Change,’ celebrating the contributions made by  all of Pompano Beach’s citizens, Black and white, who have contributed to building our city, through services and economic empowerment.”

The event will feature NFL player autographs, football clinics, equipment fittings, a USA Football tackle station, youth league sign-up stations, a parents’ forum and breakout panel sessions. From additional photo opportunities, a live DJ, giveaways, food trucks, and interactive activations from Gatorade, Campbell’s and more, the 2020 Play Football Family Festival will celebrate the football community, the coaches and players who bring passion, fun and excitement to the sport.
