  On Thursday, March 28, 2024, the District Judges of the U S District Court of the Southern District of California selected Benjamin Jerome Cheeks as its newest United States Magistrate Judge! He is the first African American Magistrate Judge to serve in the aforementioned district since the appointment and retirement of Magistrate Judge William (Bill) McCurine (2004 â 2014). The Honorable Judge Cheeks was officially sworn in (at an informal ceremony) on Friday, July 19, 2024, by the Honorable Dana M. Sabraw, Chief Judge of the United States District Court. In addition to the informal swearing in ceremony, a formal swearing in ceremony is scheduled to be held in November 2024.
 This past week the Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue proudly honored the trailblazing legacy of Lieutenant Bobby G. Glenn, the departmentâs first African American firefighter. A special display featuring Lt. Glennâs uniform was unveiled, celebrating his groundbreaking career and contributions to the community.
      One hundred and seven Black colleges and universities with way more than a quarter of a million students alone, plus professors and staffs make for a small compact army! Thatâs the Historical Black Colleges and Universities known as HBCUs. Now I know there will be well-meaning key Kamala campaign staff who may mistakenly argue that colleges and universities are already covered. Those would most likely be people unfamiliar with how this piece needs to be carved out and handled.
      Thanks to a donation of nearly $156,000, Childrenâs Harbor will be able to fund scholarships for deserving children in the community in the name of the late Max Osceola Jr., the legendary Seminole Tribe of Florida leader.
       Beyoncé has given Vice President Kamala Harris the green light to use the Lemonade cut âFreedomâ throughout her presidential campaign. After Harrisâ entrance into the campaign headquarters Monday night was soundtracked by the track, CNN reported she had gotten Beyâs approval hours earlier.

  The Summer Olympics & Paralympics is an international sports event showcasing the worldâs finest athletes and their contending spirits. Among these athletes, African Americans and those from the African Diaspora have especially performed enormously, outperforming others, and influencing generations. This article pays tribute to these athletes in Track, Tennis, Menâs Basketball, Womenâs Basketball, Gymnastics, Swimming, and more for their tremendous achievements and present glorious athletes for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
