   Today’s announcement brings the total loan forgiveness approved by the Biden-Harris Administration to $167 billion for 4.75 million Americans. Thanks to this Administration’s efforts more than one out of every 10 federal student loan borrowers has now been approved for some debt relief. This action builds on President Biden and his Administration’s efforts to provide debt relief to as many borrowers as possible as quickly as possible.

     Beverly Pierre-Louis, a 78-year-old mother of six, died in 2021. After she passed, her children discovered something they didn’t know about their mom: she was a homeowner. She had two units in her name that the family said they weren’t aware of because she struggled with mental illness in her later years.

Given this, I recently received the honor to take a visit to the Kathleen C. Wright Administration Center, to speak with Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn, the new leader in charge of guiding Broward County Public Schools into a brighter future. Conversing with him in his office allowed me to gain insight into Dr. Hepburn’s current and future goals and projects that will affect Broward County Public Schools educators, students, and the community.

   A memorial service for Willie Earl Vereen, a member of the political prisoner group Wilmington Ten, was held on Tuesday, May 28, at the Temple of Truth Light and Life in North Carolina. Vereen died on Saturday, May 25, at the age of 69. A viewing will be held later at John H. Shaw’s Son Funeral Home at 520 Red Cross St. Family members have scheduled a Wednesday funeral.

     NBA superstar Chris Paul is bringing the heat to the hardwood once again as he unveils the lineup for the highly anticipated HBCU Hoops Challenge 2024. This year’s showdown promises to be a slam dunk as top talent from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) gear up to compete for glory on the court.

     NBC Anchor Trina Robinson was one of eight persons awarded the 2024 Silver Circle Award by the Suncoast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The annual recognition is given to individuals who have worked with distinction in the television industry within the Suncoast Region, which includes the State of Florida, the State of Louisiana, the Mobile, Alabama-Pensacola, Florida television markets, as well as Puerto Rico.
