       In 2023, the Annandale, Virginia, teen was named America’s Top Young Scientist after competing in the Young Scientist Challenge held by 3M and Discovery Education. He was recognized as one of the country’s leading science experts for his groundbreaking compound-based soap bar designed to treat melanoma, a serious type of skin cancer that occurs when the pigment-producing cells that give color to the skin become cancerous.

   Over many years, Dr. Stewart and collaborators have published extensive research on facets of uterine fibroids that disproportionately affect the African American population, calling it a public health issue in a 2013 study published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology. A 2021 study in the Journal of Racial Ethnic Health Disparities provides insight into the ethnoracial factors and cultural barriers that women of color experience in the management and treatment of uterine fibroids.

       On the 116th anniversary of the Springfield Race Riot, President Joe Biden signed a proclamation establishing the Springfield 1908 Race Riot National Monument in Springfield, Illinois. The new monument will preserve 1.57 acres of federal land and highlight a significant but painful moment in American history, when a white mob attacked the Black community in Springfield, leading to the lynching of two Black men and widespread destruction of homes and businesses.

       Anyone can recycle their gently used sneakers at any Rack Room Shoes location by simply dropping them into the collection boxes found in each store. The sneakers are then shipped to Sneaker Impact’s headquarters in Miami, Florida, where they are sorted for distribution.

        The grassroots group Black Men Win Together, in partnership with the South Florida Black Prosperity Alliance, has launched the inaugural Black Men Win Tailgate. The event is set to Unite, Inform, and Mobilize a diverse, multi-generational group of Black men, including seniors, young adults, teens, husbands, fathers, veterans, business owners, community leaders, and activists, in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties, for meaningful change and improved conditions within the Black community beyond the 2024 election cycle.

Pompano Beach Arts is excited to announce the new Artists in Residence (AiR) class at Bailey Contemporary Arts Center (BaCA).  This dynamic initiative offers a unique opportunity for creative exploration, collaboration, and growth within South Florida’s vibrant arts community. Each season, new artists are selected through a competitive process. This year’s class features artists with an expansive array of creative techniques and influences. During this semester, the artists will be showcased through dedicated exhibitions and major events including Jazz Fest Pompano Beach 2025, while also interacting with the community through art workshops

   Black Music Action Coalition (BMAC) announced the star-studded lineup of honorees for the 2024 BMAC Gala, taking place on Sept. 19 at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, CA.

       Quarterbacks Coach Henry Burris acknowledges the significance of this competition. Muratovic’s familiarity with the system is a notable advantage. “Junior knows the system inside out,” Burris said. “He’s been in it for three seasons now, and his leadership, both on and off the field, has been impressive. With new wrinkles added to the offense by Coach Joseph Henry, Muratovic’s experience is invaluable as the team adapts.”

It’s Los Angeles’ turn for the torch. Mayor Karen Bass accepted the Olympic flag at the Paris closing ceremony Sunday, before handing it off to a key representative of LA’s local business — Tom Cruise — who in a pre-recorded trek via motorcycle, plane and parachute kicked off the countdown to 2028.
