A few weeks ago, Democrats were a divided party headed toward a potentially explosive convention in Chicago. Today, those fears are gone, as Kamala Harris has united the party and concluded one of the most successful conventions in American political history.

        When did politics become such fun? While Democrats will roll up our sleeves to win the November election, in the meantime our candidates are clearly having a good time with the process. Every time she strides across a stage, she beams. Her smile is an incandescence. Her wave joyful.  And as we get to know him, her avuncular running mate projects joy and confidence. The chemistry between Vice President Harris and Minnesota is visible and bodes well for this campaign.

Representing the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA), the Black Press of America, it was an honor to attend my first Democratic National Committee (DNC) Convention, an experience that will be forever etched in my memory. This account does not include all the other extracurricular activities, State breakfasts, caucuses and the various uplifting activities that occurred during the convention period. The atmosphere was electric with energy, hope, and an unwavering commitment to the core values that should bind us as a nation. As I mingled in the sea of people more diverse than any national garden I’ve ever seen, I felt a palpable sense of excitement, amplified by the presence of leaders whose vision will concievably shape the course of our nation.

       The “Souls to the Polls” event, held on Sunday August. 18,   began at New Hope Baptist Church in Fort Lauderdale, Fl.,  and ended at the African American Research Library and Culture Center (AARLCC)

At the Democratic National Convention, a cadre of leading Democratic women took the stage, unleashing a barrage of critiques against Donald Trump and J.D. Vance, framed by the Republicans’ notorious record on women’s issues. The stark differences in vision and values of the twice-impeached and 34-times convicted former president, his vice-presidential nominee, and Vice President Kamala Harris and her surrogates were on full display in Chicago.
