     Since 1967, members of the law enforcement profession have consistently advised community members to call 911 when they need help, especially if they were in need of police assistance. Established nationally in 1999 with the signing of the Public Safety Act signed by President Bill Clinton, it was meant to be a universal means of reporting emergencies and getting immediate help to those who needed it.

     If you haven’t heard, Project 2025 is a 920-page blueprint for a second Trump term, straight out of a dystopian novel. It’s packed with the horrifying policies MAGA Republicans dream of imposing.

Simone Biles made a spectacularly successful return to the Olympics by dominating the qualifying round despite a calf injury that would have sidelined most athletes.

       On this past weekend the Fort Lauderdale Black Police Association (FLBPA) hosted its inaugural Teen Summit, a groundbreaking event aimed at inspiring and empowering the youth of Broward County. The summit brought together well over 200 teenagers from diverse backgrounds to engage in meaningful discussions, workshops, and activities focused on personal growth, leadership development, and community building.

       Boy oh boy, if my favorite lunch lady, Ms. Monica, had to tell it, I stay hungry. Crogman Campus Eatery is not just a café; it’s a hub where you can have long conversations, adapt, adjust, and get to know what is now your extended family. Many people opt for food delivery services like Door Dash, and I’ve done that myself at times. However, there’s nothing like the experience at the café, or the buffet as I like to call it. The café is open late, until 10 p.m. at the latest, and is staffed by the kindest and most attentive people I’ve ever met.

This powerful show of support came just a day after 40,000 Black women joined in a similar Zoom call, generating about $2 million for Harris and sending a resounding message of solidarity and resolve.

       Marlene Williams, a trailblazing retired executive from Xerox International, has been elected as the board chair of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County for a two-year term. Williams, who made history as the first African American woman to serve as vice president of Graphic Arts in the Southeastern United States and Canada, brings her extensive international business experience and dedication to the non-profit organization. She has served on the board for seven years and is the first Black woman to hold the position of board chair.
