Of significant concern is the disproportionate impact on Black communities, constituting nearly 4 in 10 of those experiencing homelessness. Despite comprising just 13% of the total U.S. population, individuals identifying as Black accounted for 37% of the homeless population.

     Issues members stated are their primary concerns for the next legislative session fall into several categories, including health, education, public safety, social services, homelessness, affordable housing, and economics. CLBC is planning to bring immediate attention on creating legislation around the 100-plus recommendations the California Reparations Task Force panel presented to the Legislature in June of last year.

      “Once known as an ‘outsider artist,’ Purvis is now considered one of the most important self-taught artists of the 20th century. His works are owned and exhibited by major cultural institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and collected by high profile celebrities,”  said Ty Tabing, Director, Department of Cultural Affairs. “We are honored to be showcasing his work in Pompano Beach, and we look forward to the community viewing his inspiring works of art.”

The wealth and influence of a few Black Americans won’t mean anything to racists who, just like after the Civil War, seized all they could from Black people and will undoubtedly be positioned to do it again.
