Amid state and federal court challenges, Florida lawmakers have rejected an attempt to change a 2023 law that requires municipal officials to disclose detailed information about their personal finances.

     The lawsuit alleges that Navy Federal, which serves current and former military members from all service sectors, denied loans for 52 percent of Black borrowers and 44 percent of Latino borrowers, while denying only 23 percent of white applicants for home mortgage purchase or refinance loans and Home Equity Lines of Credit.

As a point of historical notation, “#The MeToo movement” was not started by White actress Alyssa Milano’s “Me Too” tweet. Forbes magazine wrote, “While activist Tarana Burke originally coined the phrase ‘Me Too’ in 2006, it was the year of the Women’s March in 2017 when actress Alyssa Milano’s ‘Me Too’ tweet started a domino effect…” The followers of American history have seen this refrain many times. Mainstream media ignores the Black participation and credits a White person for the act. Thanks to 197 years of our Black Press telling our story we have more than “His-Story” for veracity.

The Taste History Art & Culture Study Tours held on Saturday; March 9, 2024 for Women’s History Month hosted the debutantes of the historic African American Frances J. Bright Woman’s Club (FJBWC). Throughout history, debutante programs have been and still are highly regarded by African Americans as excellent cultural experiences for high school girls.

On a recent call with the proud 1986 Howard University graduate, Mr. Barnwell, now in Pasadena California, has a calm demeanor and a passionate yet measured speech that held not even an ounce of bitterness.

There is an uptick in violent and hate crimes around Broward. In many of these instances, the youth are involved. But County Commissioner, Hazelle P. Rogers is taking a stance, in a different more positive way. She believes misguided youths can be mentored, which in turn reduces crime. This is the impetus for expanding the Mayor and Commissioners for a Day Initiative into the City of Lauderhill.

     A few weeks ago, Palm Beach County leaders and West Palm Beach Mayor Keith James met with the Florida Museum of Black History Task Force to present why a state-run museum should come to West Palm Beach.
