     Sports Illustrated reports that Jerod Mayo has made history by becoming the first Black head coach in the New England Patriots’ franchise. The announcement marks the official start of the post-Bill Belichick era. During his first press conference in the role, Mayo addressed the significance of being the organization’s first Black head coach, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and addressing issues related to race.

      Bethune-Cookman University celebrated a significant day of unity and service on Thursday, Jan. 18, at the Michael and Libby Johnson Center for Civic Engagement (CCE). This momentous occasion brought together students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends to commemorate the University’s recent accomplishment – securing the fourth position in Home Depot’s prestigious “Retool Your School” competition and receiving a substantial $60,000 grant dedicated to campus enhancement.

  Avoiding the lessons of history is one of the surest ways to repeat the mistakes of once great, yet fallen, empires.  These history lessons, ever so plainly, provide incredible information as to the reasons for the perilous fate of these empires. Simply put, these lessons are like a  restaurant’s menu containing foods  to avoid  if you don’t want to  suffer a perilous fate. Consequently, governing with a blind eye to history, America’s former president Trump and the Republican Confederacy are attempting to destroy democracy one institution at a time.

  Religion has always been at odds with the founding principles, for religions usually deny liberty, equality, and democracy. Religions are mostly autocratic, require strict adherence to doctrine and resist racial and gender equality. Even so, religions had abided American democracy, satisfied with a constitutional guarantee of religious freedom. For Christian fundamentalists that is no longer true. They seek to supplant American values with religious views.
