    Two B-CU women’s volleyball players received All-SWAC Preseason honors. The conference announced it on Tuesday. N

    Niara Hightower was named SWAC Pre-Season Blocker of the Year. She also was named to the All-SWAC pre-season Second team.

    Teammate Alisha Callender joined Hightower on the All-SWAC Pre-Season Second Team.

    Hightower is a 6-foot, 2-inch senior middle blocker from Wichita Falls, Texas who was also the SWAC Blocker of the Year last season when she led the SWAC with 107 blocks averaging 1.14 per set. Hightower also recorded 114 kills (1.21 per set).

    Callender is a 5-foot, 8-inch senior setter and opposite hitter from Dorado, Puerto Rico who led the Wildcats in assists with 385 (4.43 per contest). She also had 20 services aces and 176 digs.

    B-CU volleyball picked sixth in the SWAC

     

    Bethune-Cookman’s Niara Hightwoer serves during a scrimmage. Hightower, the reigning SWAC Blocker of the Year, was named Preseason Blocker of the Year and to the All SWAC Preseason Second Team. Once again, she’ll be a force and leader for the Wildcats.

    The Bethune-Cookman University Wildcats women’s volleyball team was picked to finish sixth in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) for the 2024 season, it was announced on Monday. There are 12 teams in the conference.

    The Wildcats went 7-21 overall and 7-9 in the SWAC, making it to the conference quarterfinals in 2023.

    B-CU picked up 126 points in this year’s preseason predicted order of finish poll voted on by head coaches, sports information directors and media members.

    Defending SWAC Champion Jackson State was picked to finish first followed by Florida A&M, Alabama State, Prairie View A&M and Alabama A&M before B-CU.

    Head Coach Brittany Williams is in her eight-year leading the Wildcats.

    B-CU opens the season Aug. 30 and Aug. 31 hosting the Beach Bash against Manhattan College, Portland and Stetson.

    The Wildcats open SWAC play on Sept. 27 at Mississippi Valley State. Their first conference home match is on Oct. 4 versus Alabama A&M.

    Wildcats wrap up fall camp with scrimmage

    The Bethune-Cookman University Wildcats are getting closer to their 2024 football season.

    B-CU wrapped up their fall camp with an inter squad scrimmage at Daytona Stadium on Aug. 17.

    The Wildcats went through 60 plays in the second and final scrimmage of fall camp.

    Five different quarterbacks saw action, including Luke Sprague and Tylik Bethea, who both saw action last year. Micah Bowens, a transfer from Charlotte, also saw action under center.

    Some highlights include the following:

    Luke Sprague connected a 23-yard pass to Terry Lindsey out of the backfield

    Terry Lindsay also had a five-yard touchdown run

    Cross Payton an Oregan transfer had a 10-yard touchdown run; he also had runs of 27 yards and 32 yards.

    Terrance Alexander picked off a pass.

    Cade Hechter hit a 40-yard field go al.

    The defense deflected a pass in the back of the endzone that ended a potential offense scoring drive.

    Bethune-Cookman is now doing a regular practice schedule as they prepare to open the season at the University of South Florida in Raymond James Stadium in Tampa on Saturday, Aug. 31 at 7 p.m.

    Wildcats release women’s basketball schedule

    Bethune-Cookman University released its women’s basketball schedule for the 2024-25 upcoming season.

    The Wildcats open the season at South Florida on Monday, Nov. 4. Their first home game will follow on Nov. 9 against Fort Lauderdale.
