As the calendar turns toward the heart of August, football season is no longer on the horizon — and the intensity is rising in South Florida as the Miami Dolphins officially transition into full padded practices.
For players, coaches and fans alike, this is one of the most important stages of NFL training camp. The pads are on, the physicality increases, and the true evaluation process begins as the Dolphins prepare for what they hope will be a championship-caliber 2026 season.
With each practice, head coach Jeff Hafley’s vision for the team is becoming clearer. Competition is intensifying across the roster, young players are beginning to emerge, and veterans are setting the tone as Miami works to establish its identity before preseason action begins.
“You have to find out how each player learns,” said Hafley, when discussing his coaching philosophy.
“I think the best coaches are the best teachers, and I think that’s why I have a ton of respect for all the teachers, all the school teachers, because they need to figure out how each kid learns, and each kid learns differently,” he added.
That philosophy has been evident throughout camp as Miami’s coaching staff emphasizes player development, communication and accountability while building a culture designed to maximize every player’s potential.

The excitement surrounding training camp will reach another level on Saturday, Aug. 8, when the Dolphins host their highly anticipated stadium practice at Hard Rock Stadium. The event will give thousands of fans an opportunity to watch the team up close in a game-day environment as preparations continue for the upcoming season.
The stadium practice has become one of the most popular events of training camp, offering supporters a first glimpse at how the roster is shaping up while creating an electric atmosphere that mirrors the energy of the regular season.
Fans interested in attending should remember that RSVP registration is required for training camp sessions and related public events. Attendance opportunities remain limited, making early registration highly recommended.
Preseason schedule begins August 14
The next major milestone for Miami arrives on Aug. 14, when the Dolphins open their preseason schedule against the Washington Commanders.
The preseason opener will provide coaches with their first live-game evaluation of the roster and offer younger players a valuable opportunity to compete for roster spots.
Miami will then return home for its first preseason game at Hard Rock Stadium on Aug. 22 against the New York Giants.
Before that matchup, fans will have another chance to experience training camp action when the Dolphins and Giants conduct a joint practice on Thursday, Aug. 20. The session will be open to the public, though fans must RSVP in advance to attend.
Joint practices have become some of the NFL’s most competitive preseason events, allowing teams to test themselves against unfamiliar opponents before the games officially begin.
Ollie Gordon II embraces training camp
One player who has embraced the team’s daily focus on consistency and preparation is rookie running back Ollie Gordon II.
The talented back noted that the habits established during training camp directly impact performance once the regular season begins.
“Oh, definitely. We talk about it every day. I mean, it’s been said for years — you practice how you play. If it’s intentional here, high purpose, it’s going to be like that on Sundays, which will make it easier if we’re doing it here at practice,” said Gordon.
That mindset reflects a recurring theme throughout camp: attention to detail, urgency and purpose in every drill.
Gordon also spoke about the energy generated by Dolphins fans who have attended practices throughout the week.
“It’s always good when the fans are out here,” he said. “We got a week with them, I think week and a half, something like that. But it was a great feeling hearing them cheer us on, just behind us the whole time. I felt like it was great.”
The connection between the team and its fan base has been one of the highlights of camp, with strong attendance creating an energetic atmosphere during workouts.
Dolphins players give back
While competition on the field remains intense, Dolphins players have also been making an impact throughout the South Florida community.
Several backpack giveaways were held during training camp week, helping local students prepare for the upcoming school year while strengthening the organization’s commitment to community outreach.
On Monday, inside linebacker Jordyn Brooks partnered with the Urban League of Broward County, and on Tuesday, defensive lineman Jordan Phillips teamed up with the Boys & Girls Club of Lauderhill. Coming up this Thursday, center Aaron Brewer will partner with Miami Gardens Parks & Recreation, and on Friday, running back De’Von Achane will join nonprofit Code/Art and the Boys & Girls Club of Miami.
Countdown to kickoff
With padded practices underway, a packed schedule of fan events approaching and preseason football just days away, the Miami Dolphins are beginning to take shape.
Training camp is where expectations become reality, and every practice now carries greater significance as roster battles intensify and the regular season draws closer.
