Tiger Woods withdrew from the 2022 PGA Championship because of bad golf and a bad leg. Still, Tiger will live a good life. For some Americans, withdrawing is not an option.
A June 2021Brookings report, Longshadows: The Black-White gap in multigenerational po-verty, stated, that poverty is 16 times higher among Black adults than White adults (21.3 percent and 1.2 percent, respectively). Moreover, a June 2021 McKinsey and Company report titled The economic state of Black America: What is and what could be, stated, that 19 percent of Black families have “negative wealth” meaning the value of debts exceed the value of their assets. An additional 23 percent of Black families have a net worth of less than $10,000.
Unlike Tiger Woods, this group of Americans can’t afford to withdraw when bad health negatively affects job performance.
