Runcie and School Board members spent the first day of the new school year visiting several schools, greeting students, parents, teachers and staff. “It has truly been an exciting day. I enjoyed visiting our schools, speaking with students and their parents, and greeting staff,” said Superintendent Robert Runcie. “Our employees – at all levels – are working incredibly hard to ensure a smooth start to the school year.”
As of the first day, there were 261,709 students attending BCPS schools. This marks an increase of 1,766 from 2012/13. In addition, as part of the Children Have a Need to Grow Everyday Movement (C.H.A.N.G.E.), 85,292 adults accompanied a student to school the first day of school.
