NATIONWIDE — Valena York Henderson, an African American woman from Atlanta, Georgia, recently turned 105 and celebrated the milestone with family and friends. The gathering honored her life of love, faith, and service across five generations.
Born in 1919, Henderson has lived through world wars, the civil rights era, and over a century of change. Her family describes her as a steady presence — a woman whose quiet strength and compassion have shaped the lives of many.

“Her influence has touched generations, and her story is one of enduring love, faith, and service,” her granddaughter, Felicia Hicks, told 11Alive. The celebration included cake, heartfelt speeches, and shared memories that reflected her lasting impact.
