FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – Broward Health is looking for diverse suppliers. On Nov. 7, the healthcare system hosted its Twenty-Third Annual Broward Health Supplier Diversity Business and Health Expo at Signature Grand in Davie, Florida. Dozens of interested business owners were in attendance.

The healthcare system buys an assortment of supplies, equipment and services to operate its four hospitals and 30-plus sites. Broward Health continually strives to increase the number of diverse vendors to help it better serve the northern two-thirds of Broward County. More than 1,100 of the system’s nearly 3,000 registered vendors are considered a minority-owned business.

“This event is just another way for businesses that are small, led by women or minority-owned to learn about how they can partner with Broward Health to provide products and services that enhance the level of care we offer to our community,” said David Clark, senior vice president of operations.

The free networking event included a presentation about the procurement process by Jorge Hernandez, vice president of supply chain services and chief procurement officer. “At Broward Health, we’re committed to ensuring that diverse businesses remain an integral part of our supply chain,” he said.

“We’re always looking for a few better diverse vendors,” said LaRae Floyd, manager of material operations and business development. “We care immensely about our partners’ health – clinical and economic,” she said.

Additionally, North Bro-ward Hospital District Board Commissioner Marie Waugh attended and delivered the official welcome. “It’s our goal to develop mutually beneficial relationships with diverse suppliers,” she said. “Employing niche suppliers with proven successes helps Broward Health better serve our patients.”

Attendees had an opportunity to meet with Broward Health’s procurement staff, key end-users and prime vendors. Also available were free health screenings administered by Broward Health’s Community Health Services team.
