Broward Health schedules 387 mammograms two weeks before Mammopalooza begins

It has taken no advertising or promotion, but patients who have previously attended Broward Health’s MAMMOPALOOZA have remembered how getting a mammogram can be a stress-free procedure in a festive, girl-friendly setting. With less than two weeks until the fourth annual MAMMOPALOOZA officially kicks off on Monday, Oct. 1, Broward Health has already registered 387 mammograms for the month of October, and more are being scheduled every day.

Unlike previous years where MAMMOPALOOZA has been a two-week campaign, this year it will run the full month of October, which also means higher goals. Yet, a goal of 4,200 mammograms in 31 days seems more attainable when you already have hundreds of women scheduling their appointments in advance.

“The lead up to MAMMOPALOOZA has been exceptional,” said Heather Miller, regional director of cancer services at Broward Health. “We are excited that women are remembering to schedule their mammograms due to this exceptional campaign, and we look forward to reaching thousands more who, perhaps, have yet to have a mammogram. Early detection of breast cancer is critical to patient outcomes, and we are determined to make a difference in the lives of women in our community.”

Every year more than 200,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer, but early detection saves lives. To celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month, each October Broward Health offers MAMMOPALOOZA, a fun, frilly, girl-themed event that provides extended opportunities for mammograms at all Broward Health hospitals. This year, it will run from Oct. 1-31.

MAMMOPALOOZA appointments include a mammography screening and review by North Broward radiologists. Weekend and evening hours are available, and most insurance is accepted. Self-pay is $115 by cash or credit card and everyone who has a mammogram will receive a Vera Bradley special gift, while supplies last. For more information about MAMMOPALOOZA, upcoming special events or to schedule a mammogram, call (954) 759-7500 or visit BrowardHealth.org/mammo.
