    Representative Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL ) was sworn in Saturday for her first full term in the United States House of Representative from Florida’s 20th Congressional District. The 20th Congressional District consists of several cities in Broward and Palm Beach counties, to include Belle Glade, Lauderdale Lakes, Tamarac, Lauderhill, North Lauderdale parts of Pompano, Plantation, Sunrise, West Palm, and Fort Lauderdale.

Amid scrutiny over Cleveland police hiring practices, the department has been scouting Historically Black Colleges and Universities to help fix its image. Not everyone is on board.

     It’s called “The Embrace,” and to design it, Hank Willis Thomas pored over hundreds of images of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and his wife, Coretta Scott King. “There was an intimacy that I saw that wasn’t really highlighted often,” Thomas said. “Often when you do look closely at pictures, they’re holding each other’s hands.”
