The Florida Healthy Kids Corporation has recently launched a partnership with Health Foundation of South Florida, supported by a $110,000 grant, to help children in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties receive critical health coverage. A combined 69,000 children in the two South Florida counties are uninsured, and an estimated 35,000 qualify for free or low-cost insurance coverage through the Florida KidCare program.

Tiana Blount, MHA, has been named associate vice president, ambulatory operations, of Broward Health Community Health Services (CHS), which provides high quality, affordable healthcare and is the medical safety net for Broward County resident residing in the northern two-thirds of Broward County.

About 700 to 900 women die each year from causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. And for every death, dozens of women suffer life-threatening complications. But there is a stark racial disparity in these numbers. Black mothers are three to four times more likely to die than white mothers. Nevertheless, Black women’s voices are often missing from public discussions about what’s behind the maternal health crisis and how to address the problems.

Black AIDS Institute is launching a Black Women and PrEP Tool Kit, offering direct services for Black women in our prevention clinic in Los Angeles, and announcing that we will conduct a series of summits nationwide to increase capacity for advocacy and education around PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) access  for Black women.
